Stay-At-Home Salon: Easy Overnight Hairstyles

Overnight Hair Tip #1: Donut Sleep Without It

Get flawlessly full curls while skipping hair damage with this heatless hair hack, which works well even for fine, straight hair. For this overnight hairstyle, you’ll need a hair tie, one hair donut, and a styling product.

Liberally apply a styling mousse like Kérastase’s Mousse Bouffante from roots to ends. Gather hair up into a high pony and secure with a hair tie. Weave pony through your hair (or a sock!) donut and set it in place on top of your head.

Separate your pony into 2 or 3 sections (depending on hair thickness) and begin wrapping sections around the donut, securing the ends in place with a hairpin as needed. Once all the sections are wrapped in a bun, set everything with a  quick-drying spray like Enjoy’s Hair Finishing Spray and go to bed!

In the morning, unwrap your bun and watch those luscious curls tumble down!

Overnight Hair Tip #2: Braid 'n Breakfast

Perfect for thick, long hair, this wavy hair look is nothing to sleep on. Get swoon-worthy mermaid waves with nothing but a few elastic bands and well-earned beauty sleep.

Start with a generous application of styling mousse or spray through hair. For this look, we love using Enjoy’s Curl Enhancing Spray to make sure those luscious waves perfectly set through the night. Divide hair into two sections, left and right.

Working on one side first, take a section near the top of your head and split it into two pieces. Twist the front piece over the other, gathering more hair with the bottom piece before twisting it over the top. Repeat this process, gathering hair as you twist your way to the base of your neck. Once you’ve secured all layers in your section, twist your braid into a tight bun and secure with an elastic. Repeat the same process in the second section and mist with hair spray before heading to bed.

Wake up, unfurl those buns and shake those voluminous mermaid locks free!

Overnight Hair Tip #3: Straight Outta Bed

Night-time hairstyles aren’t just for curls and waves because, yes, you can also naturally straighten those locks mid-snooze! Unbelievable? We thought so too until the “el tubi tubi” showed us the light. This method is all about delivering heatless straightening using nothing but bobby pins and hair rollers while you catch some zzz’s.

Apply a straightening styling product like Enjoy’s Straightener Style and comb it through slightly damp hair. Part hair on one side and section off about 2 inches of the front section. Grab a section of hair from directly behind the front section and comb through it, making sure it’s straight and smooth. Keep section taut as you hold it up and begin to wrap it around a hair roller. Secure hair roller with hairpins and repeat this process with the section directly behind the one you just rolled.

Taking the sections of hair in front of the rollers, use a hard bristled brush to sweep from one end of your head to the other, creating a deep side part. Keep combing until you’ve smoothed out any bumps, and hair is swept straight and tight to one side. Move on to the section from behind that deep part and keep combing from the back towards the front of your head, keeping hair smooth and taut as you wrap it across your forehead. Repeat until you’ve had a few layers brushed over and across your forehead. Secure combed over hair with a large hairpin and repeat process of brushing and pinning as you tightly wrap hair around your head. Once all your hair is wrapped and secured in place, it’s snooze time!

The final step? Unwrap the present of straight hair and look fresh from a top salon visit when, really, you’re just fresh out of bed!

Overnight Hair Tip #4: Halo and Good Mornin'

The big sister version of the sock bun method, this night-time hair trick, delivers gorgeous loose waves that work well for longer hair. The best part? The only thing you’ll need is an old t-shirt, a hair tie, and some hairpins.

Gather an old t-shirt and twist it into a roller shape across its entire length. Bring both ends together, creating a massive hair donut and secure with a hair tie. Set aside.

Apply a styling product like Kérastase’s Densimorphose® Hair Mousse for thinning hair. Brush hair forward on one side of your part, and place your halo on top of your head. Begin wrapping sections of your hair around the halo as with the sock bun, securing with hairpins as needed. Repeat until all sections of your hair are wrapped around your halo. Mist with a setting spray, and it’s time for bed!

Honestly, what could be better than starting your day wearing a halo? Probably the effortlessly soft curls that come tumbling down once you unwrap everything and start your day!

Overnight Hair Tip #5: Easy as One, (Ban)tu, Three

Got natural hair and looking for an easy overnight ‘do too? Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten you!

For flawlessly beautiful heatless curls on natural hair, start with freshly washed and dry hair. Apply a generous amount of your favorite leave-in like Ouidad’s Silky Soufflé Setting Creme throughout hair. Split hair in half on each side, then split both sections in half again to create four major sections – two in the front and two in the back. Secure each section with a hair elastic.

Starting with the front section, begin twisting hair towards the back of your head (counterclockwise) until it begins coiling around itself. Start wrapping it into a bun while twisting to ensure that the coil stays tight. Once you’ve reached the end of your hair section, tuck the end of your twisted section under the bun and secure with an elastic. Repeat for the other front section.

Repeat the same process for the other two back sections, but twist hair towards the front of your head (clockwise). Once all four sections are secured in twisted buns, it’s time to let your sleep cycle do most of the work!

Before unfurling your overnight curls, prime your fingertips with some hair oil like Moroccanoil’s Treatment Original to prevent frizz. Slowly unwrap your Bantu puns, carefully separating the sections and defining your curls. Take a wide-toothed comb to tease it out and use a boar bristle brush to sweep your hair to your desired parting.

Finish off by applying a favorite hair control product, like Ouidad’s VitalCurl™+ Tress Effects® Styling Gel, to hold down edges and set everything in place with a finishing mist!
